On the 12th episode of Russian Football Now’s podcast, Chris Riordan and myself talk about a successful week for Russian teams in Champions League, were both Rubin Kazan and CSKA Moscow took points from a finalist in last season’s UCL tournament. Oh how things have changes for a league that saw both of its Champions League entrants lose decisively on the first match day.

Chris and I also talk about the Premier League, where Rubin and CSKA will meet this weekend at Luzhniki Stadium.

RFN QuickCast: Ramos Out at CSKA Moscow After 47 Days

Last night at Russian Football Now, Chris Riordan and I did a quickcast about the shock news that manderlust-stricken vagabond Juande Ramos had parted ways with CSKA Moscow, and while my working my hint at feigned disbelief, the timing of the separation is unbelievable. CSKA is at a critical point in their season, as they are on the edge of both 2010-11 Champions League qualification and advancement in the same tournament this year. Still, Ramos has parted ways with CSKA, sending the club into turmoil.

Rubin Kazan was that club, in the headlines all over Europe after shocking Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Tuesday. Not only was it the most anticipated match of the weekend (national allegiances aside), but it was also the most tactically intriguing. The way it played out, a 1-0 win for Germany in Moscow, gave hosts Chris Riordan and I too much to talk about. Regardless, we had to get another perspective on the show, which is why we were happy to welcome The Third Half’s Johnathan Starling, an avid follower of the Bundesliga who helped give us perspective on the German team, particularly the game-changing performance of Rene Ádler.

The newest edition of the RFN podcast is out, and I am not happy. Let’s be real: I invested some intellectual capital in Rubin, and what do they go? They laid a huge fabrege egg in Kiev.

So, I’ve got to be real. I love the Russian league, I am a fan of the culture, and they obvious produce a high quality of player, but right now, the clubs are not performing well.

Inside the Six’s weekend wrap-up show has been distributed at World Soccer Reader. This weekend we spent the first half of the show talking about all the epic match-ups that took place around the world. In the third segment, we got caught up on MLS and CONCACAF Champions League. Along the way, I went over the results of the major matches in our choice leagues, giving you updates on the tables as I went.
